Avondale Teacher Dies after DUI Crash at Weldon Avenue and Grand Avenue
PHOENIX, AZ (October 5, 2019) – Authorities identified 25-year-old Heather Began as the driver killed in a head-on crash on Grand Avenue, Saturday afternoon.
According to the Phoenix Police Department, the incident happened at about 4:15 PM. A 2019 Toyota Camry attempted to turn left from Weldon Avenue to Grand Avenue. There, it crashed into a northwest 2008 Ford Fusion driven by Began. Both vehicles came to rest near the railroad tracks.
Emergency responders rushed both drivers to a hospital. Unfortunately, Began succumbed to serious injuries and died hours after the incident. Meanwhile, the other driver, described as a 29-year-old man, remains hospitalized.
Phoenix police said that the Toyota driver is at fault, adding that speed and impairment were contributing factors. Officers will release additional information following the conclusion of the investigation.
