Downey Auto Accident on Lakewood Boulevard and Columbia Way Sends Downey Police Officer to Hospital

DOWNEY, CA (March 14, 2023) – Early Monday morning, a police officer suffered injuries in a head-on crash on Lakewood Boulevard and Columbia Way.

The crash involving an officer’s patrol SUV and a civilian sedan happened at around 1:45 a.m. on Lakewood Boulevard and Columbia Way.

Meanwhile, the California Highway Patrol has also confirmed that the officer was transported to the hospital for treatment.

Also, video footage from the scene reveals significant front-end damage to both vehicles, with airbags deployed in both the police SUV and the white sedan. Moreover, Downey firefighters can also be seen removing an injured man from the civilian car.

In a Facebook post that was updated at 3:38 a.m., the Downey Police Department urged drivers to avoid the area. The northbound lanes of Lakewood Boulevard were closed from Donovan to Alameda streets. Meanwhile, authorities also closed the northbound lanes of Columbia Way from Imperial Highway.

At this time, the cause of the accident remained unknown. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.

Moreover, the Downey Police Department has not provided further details regarding the condition of the injured officer or the civilian driver.
