Devastating Head-On Crash on Highway 165 Kills Motorcyclist [Merced County, CA]

Merced County, CA (August 25, 2023) On Wednesday evening, a head-on crash on Highway 165 caused the death of a 35-year-old Hilmar male motorcyclist.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal 2-vehicle collision happened around 10:22 p.m. on the area of Highway 165 and August Road.

Reports say that a southbound 2013 Audi SUV, driven by a 33-year-old Newman woman, tried to pass other vehicles ahead of her, however, she went directly into the path of a northbound 2005 Harley Davidson Motorcycle.

The motorcyclist noticed the Audi and attempted to swerve to his right onto the east shoulder of Highway 165 to avoid the crash. However, the female driver also swerved to the left and onto the east shoulder of Highway 165.

Consequently, the Audi and the motorcycle collided head-on. The Hilmar man died at the scene due to the fatal injuries he received from the crash. Meanwhile, the Newman woman and a 12-year-old passenger escaped injuries.

Authorities are investigating the fatal 2-vehicle crash.
