Girl Struck and Injured by Hit-and-Run Driver in Santa Rosa
SANTA ROSA, CA (February 20, 2019) – A 7-year-old girl was injured after being struck by a hit-and-run driver in Santa Rosa at around 5 p.m. Saturday.
A surveillance video from a neighbor’s home showed the victim, Hazelann Conzet, and her 9-year-old brother Damiion Conzet running across Louis Krohn Drive. A black sedan then came into view and hits Hazelann, launching her about 10 feet into the air. She landed on the street, screamed, and then ran away with her friend and brother who made it most of the way across the street.
Damiion mentioned that he felt like passing out while he described how scared he was after seeing his sister get hit around the corner from their home. Hazelann was physically okay but suffered some bumps and bruises on her legs and head.
Their mother, Candace Conzet, said Hazelann has been jumpy every time she sees a black car, similar to the one that hit her on Saturday. She said she’s most grateful because her daughter is okay, saying it could have been so much worse.
Santa Rosa Police Sgt. Dan Hackett, said that the driver made the situation a lot worse by running and that a no enforcement action could turn into a felony by leaving.
According to the police, there is a $2,500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspected hit-and-run driver. The reward is being offered by the Sonoma County Alliance Take Back Our Community Program.
Whether you are a driver or a pedestrian, it is important to abide by all traffic laws and observe safety precautions. If you’re behind the wheel, do your part to avoid distractions and look out for pedestrians at all times. If you’re crossing the street, do so at designated crosswalks or intersections. When walking alongside a road, remain on the sidewalk wherever possible. If there is no sidewalk, walk on the shoulder and face oncoming traffic. By obeying traffic laws and being cautious of the conditions of the road, you can help prevent an unforeseen accident and keep yourself and others safe.
