Crash on Highway 24 East of Gateway Boulevard Exit Kills 2-Year-Old Hazel Lacy
Orinda, CA (August 18, 2020) – A fatal crash on a rain-soaked Highway 24 left a toddler named Hazel Lacy dead on Sunday.
Authorities identified the fatal victim as Hazel Lacy, a 2-year-old girl from Oakland.
According to the report, a 23-year-old woman from Oakland was driving a beige Kia sedan eastbound on Highway 24. The California Highway Patrol said the woman lost control of the vehicle and overturned before landing on the dirt shoulder.
CHP did not clarify if Lacy and the woman were related.
Medical personnel rushed Lacy to the hospital for treatments however, she was pronounced dead.
Furthermore, the investigators do not believe that alcohol or drugs were a factor in the fatal crash. It is also unclear if Lacy was wearing a seatbelt and properly seated in a child safety seat.
