Woman Dies in DUI Crash on Highway 299 at Grizzly Gulch Road
WHISKEYTOWN, CA (January 29, 2020) – A man was arrested following a fatal DUI crash Wednesday evening in Whiskeytown, according to the CHP.
The crash happened around 8:14 p.m. on Highway 299, just east of Grizzly Gulch Road.
CHP officials said a 1999 Toyota pickup truck was traveling westbound, while a 1992 Chevrolet S-10 was heading westbound. For unknown reasons, the Toyota drifted into the oncoming lane, causing a head-on collision.
As a result, the female driver of the Chevrolet suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. The identity of the woman was not immediately available pending notification of her family. She was the only person in her vehicle.
The driver of the Chevrolet, 42-year-old Hawk Blaze Bergstrom of Redding, suffered major injuries and was taken to Shasta Regional Medical Center.
Police later arrested Bergstrom on suspicion of driving under the influence.
An investigation into this fatal crash is ongoing.
