Harvey Taira Killed after Bakersfield Wrong-Way accident on Highway 99
BAKERSFIELD, CA (August 12, 2019) — The Kern County Sheriff’s Office identified Harvey Taira as the man killed on Thursday, August 8.
63-year-old Harvey Akio Taira was the operator of the wrong-way vehicle that crashed head-on with another car.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a Honda Civic driven by Taira moved southbound on northbound Highway 99. Then the vehicle collided into a Nissan Armada. A Honda Accord was also hit and a Honda Odyssey was sideswiped.
Officials pronounced Taira dead at the scene of the accident.
Paramedics rushed several other injured passengers to hospitals, including two children.
