16-Year-Old Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Metropolitan Transit System Trolley near 8 Freeway
EL CAJON, CA (May 16, 2018) – A 16-year-old pedestrian was killed Wednesday evening after a trolley struck him. Friends and family identified the victim as Harley Groleau, a student at Chaparral High School.
El Cajon Police officers and paramedics arrived at the scene around 8 PM in the 1200 block of El Cajon Boulevard after receiving reports about a man who was hit by a Metropolitan Transit System Trolley near 8 Freeway.
Emergency personnel pronounced Groleau dead at the scene of the collision.
As per the statements of witnesses, Groleau was walking on the trolley track outside of a marked crossing area when he was struck. The driver of the trolley remained at the scene and cooperated with officials during their investigation.
Investigators are still unsure if drugs and alcohol were contributing factors in the fatal collision happened. Groleau’s family believe that the teen might have been wearing headphones and failed to anticipate the oncoming trolley. No additional information has been disclosed at this time.
