2-Year-Old Girl Fatally Struck by Vehicle near Leffingwell Road
WHITTIER, CA (November 4, 2018) – A toddler was killed in a pedestrian crash on Santa Gertrudes Avenue, early Sunday evening. The young victim was later identified as 2-year-old Harlee Page Ferris of Whittier.
According to officials with the California Highway Patrol, the incident took place at approximately 5:30 PM, about a quarter-mile south of the Leffingwell Road intersection.
Reports showed that the little girl was walking with her father, 32-year-old Robert Ferris, outside of a marked crosswalk. They were crossing the street when they were struck by a 2015 Lexus ES350 sedan that was heading north on Santa Gertrudes Avenue.
Both the father and daughter were taken to the UC Irvine Medical Center in serious condition. Harley later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead by medical staff, while Robert was listed in a critical condition. The driver of the car, 39-year-old William Hurlbut IV remained on site after the crash and cooperated with responding officers. Alcohol or drugs did not appear to be factors in the crash. No further details have been disclosed to the public, as the Santa Fe Springs Area CHP continues to investigate.
