13-Year-Old Girl Struck by Jeep near Tenny Creek Neighborhood Park
VANCOUVER, WA (September 21, 2018) – On Wednesday night, a 13-year-old girl was injured after struck by a hit-and-run driver on the 3000 block of Northeast 88th Street. The young victim was later identified as Halie Oana.
As per reports, the teenager had been playing at Tenny Creek Neighborhood Park with her 12-year-old brother, Mason, when they crossed the street to go home.
There, a dark gray 2001 Jeep Cherokee with a faded front panel struck her. The vehicle then fled the scene, leaving the injured child in the road. Deputies arrived at the scene at the scene of the crash around 7:10 PM, after being alerted about the incident.
Halie was rushed to the PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center and later transferred to the Randall Children’s Hospital at Legacy Emanuel. She suffered a broken leg, and bumps and bruises over her body. According to doctors, her right tibia has a spiral fracture for which they recommend surgery. No other injuries were reported.
Clark County deputies are still searching for the hit-and-run driver, but have found the vehicle. He is believed to be a white man in his mid-30’s, but there are currently no leads. Investigators believe the driver did not see the kids walking in the street and swerved into the center median but was unable to avoid hitting the girl with the vehicle’s front quarter panel.
A witness reported that they saw the driver driving erratically before the collision, and was also seen driving on the wrong side of Northeast 88th Street. No additional information has been released to the public, as the investigation continues.
