Gustabo Ramirez of Chico Killed in Pursuit Crash on Walker Street [Orland, CA]

Orland, CA (January 15, 2023) – On Thursday, Gustabo Ramirez, 20, of Chico, died, while a female Subaru driver sustained injuries in a pursuit crash on Walker Street.

At approximately 7:43 p.m., an Orland Police Department officer noticed an eastbound motorcycle on Walker Street through the intersection of 6th Street performing a wheelie.

The officer attempted to catch up to the motorcycle driven by Gustabo Ramirez with lights and sirens. However, the motorcyclist did not yield to the officer and fled eastbound at a high rate of speed while passing other vehicles.

Due to the speeds involved and the risk to the public, the police officer turned off their lights and sirens and stopped the pursuit.

The model year 2015 Yamaha FZ07 traveled eastbound and failed to stop at the red light at the intersection with Papst Avenue.

As a result, Gustabo Ramirez collided with a red Subaru that had entered the intersection and with a white Toyota stopped in the westbound lane of East Walker Street. 

The impact of the collision threw Ramirez off the motorcycle.

First responders began life-saving measures on Ramirez. Also, emergency personnel from Westside Ambulance and the Orland Fire Department immediately arrived at the scene and also began life-saving measures. However, Gustabo Ramirez lost his life at the crash scene.

Moreover, the female driving the Subaru was evaluated and released at the scene of the collision. 

The paramedics rushed the female driver of the Toyota by ambulance to an area hospital.

Meanwhile, Orland Police is investigating the Orland fatal collision.
