Guisela Veintimilla Hurt in Brutal Traffic Crash on Highway 243 [Mattawa, WA]

Mattawa, WA (September 28, 2024) On Friday morning, 47-year-old Guisela Veintimilla of Desert Aire was hurt after a traffic crash on Highway 243.

According to the Washington State Patrol (WSP), the horrific 2-vehicle crash happened at about 6:07 a.m. on State Route 243, approximately 10 miles south of Mattawa.

Reports say that a box truck and an SUV collided on State Route 243 early Friday morning, resulting in two individuals being hospitalized.

WSP says that a 2018 Freightliner M2 box truck was traveling northbound when it veered off the roadway onto the shoulder. The driver overcorrected, causing the truck to tip onto its side. Meanwhile, a 2016 Hyundai Santa Fe traveling southbound collided with the overturned truck.

The crash caused both vehicles to block the entire State Route 243. Emergency services responded promptly, finding two injured individuals at the scene.

Misael Leon, a 29-year-old driver of the box truck from Moxee, was airlifted to Kadlec Hospital for treatment. Officials charged Leon with second-degree negligent driving.

Meanwhile, Veintimilla sustained injuries and was transported to Kadlec Hospital. Officials confirmed to have been wearing her seatbelt during the incident.

Authorities do not believe drugs or alcohol contributed to the collision, and the cause of the crash is currently under investigation.

Both vehicles sustained significant damage and were towed from the scene.

Officials say that State Route 243 was temporarily closed to traffic while officials cleared the area and conducted their investigation.
