GILROY, CA (July 18, 2018) – On Wednesday afternoon, one person was killed and three others were injured in a solo-car crash on Bolsa Road. The deceased victim was later identified as Guillermo Cruz.
California Highway Patrol stated that the fatal accident occurred before 3:00 PM, just north of Bloomfield Avenue.
23-year-old Pedro Gutierrez Flores was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt down Bolsa when he veered off the roadway and struck a concrete pillar on the 615 block. Flores, along with two rear passengers, Angel Hernandez and Alberto Montoya Valdez, sustained major injuries. They were transported to the San Jose Regional Medical Center by ambulance. Cruz, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, was pronounced dead on the scene by emergency responders.
Bolsa Road was closed for about two hours after the crash, as officials conducted their investigation.
The cause of the incident is under investigation by the California Highway Patrol, but authorities believe that alcohol may have been involved.
