Late Evening Pedestrian Crash on Highway 99 in Gridley Turns Fatal

 
GRIDLEY, CA (February 2, 2019) – A road worker was killed after being struck by a vehicle late Saturday evening in Gridley.
 
The fatal crash happened around 11:47 p.m. on Highway 99 at Riviera Road.
 
Details of how the crash occurred were not immediately available, but responding officers found the pedestrian lying on the roadway. A vehicle with hazard lights on was also recovered in the area.
 
A coroner was dispatched to the scene and confirmed the fatality of the incident.
 
The identity of the victim has not yet been released pending next of kin notification.
 
The roadway was closed for an hour and 10 minutes while evidence from the scene was collected and photographed.
 
It is unknown if drugs and/or alcohol were contributing factors in the crash. Further investigation is underway.
