Claudia Villantes Injured in Nacogdoches Fatal Collision
Nacogdoches, TX (February 17, 2023) – On Wednesday, Griceldo Garcia, 69, of Nacogdoches, died in a Northeast Stallings Drive DUI crash.
The traffic incident took place at about 7:28 p.m. in the 2800 block area.
Officers said a southbound white Jeep Patriot driven by Claudia Villantes, 27, of Nacogdoches, was slowing to turn into a private drive.
Behind Villantes was also a southbound black Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Griceldo Garcia, who was slowing due to the Jeep turning in front of his vehicle.
Then, behind Garcia was a silver Ford F-150 driven by Jerry Chandler, 49, of Nacogdoches. Unfortunately, he failed to slow his speed and rear-ended the Jeep Grand Cherokee, which then rear-ended the Jeep Patriot making it go off the roadway.
Villantes and a 5-year-old child incurred minor injuries due to the collision.
Garcia, his wife, and their 9-year-old grandson, all incurred serious injuries. EMS rushed them to Memorial Hospital where Griceldo was declared dead. Reports said the 9-year-old passenger was later airlifted to Dallas.
Moreover, Chandler did not sustain injuries from the collision. The authorities booked Chandler at the Nacogdoches County Jail on two charges of intoxication assault and one charge of intoxication manslaughter.
