2 Drivers Dead in Morning Head-On Crash on Highway 99 at Oswald Road
YUBA CITY, CA (October 18, 2019) – Two drivers were killed following a head-on crash Friday morning in Yuba City, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash happened around 6:40 a.m. on Highway 99 at Oswald Road.
CHP officials said a 1995 Toyota sedan, driven by 32-year-old Darryl Wade Taylor of Yuba City, was traveling northbound in the fast lane. For unknown reasons, it crossed into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a 2016 Ford pickup truck, driven by Gretchen Elizabeth Hubbard, 59, of Gridley.
As a result, Taylor died at the scene. Hubbard was taken to a hospital, where she also succumbed to her injuries.
Both drivers were wearing seat belts, according to the CHP. They were sole occupants in their vehicles.
Both vehicles sustained major front-end damage and airbags were deployed.
Officials closed several lanes near the crash site while they conducted their investigation. It is unknown whether drugs or alcohol were a factor.
