64-Year-Old San Lorenzo Man Dies after Crashing His Bike into Semi Truck
SAN LEANDRO, CA (March 19, 2019) – A man was killed after he reportedly pulled his motorcycle directly in front of a semi truck at a traffic signal Tuesday morning.
The fatal crash happened around 9:18 a.m. at the intersection of Hesperian Boulevard and College Street.
Preliminary reports indicated that a 2013 Kenworth Aerocab big rig, driven by a 21-year-old man, had stopped in the left-turn lane and was waiting for the green light to enter the ramp to southbound Highway 238.
A 1995 yellow-and-black Harley Davidson motorcycle pulled alongside before slipping into a space directly in front of the truck. When the signal turned green, the truck pulled forward and struck the motorcycle.
Alameda County Fire Department firefighters responded and provided life-saving measures, but the rider was pronounced dead at the scene. He was later identified Tuesday afternoon as Gregory Ott, 64, of San Lorenzo.
The truck’s driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with officers. He was unharmed.
The northbound lanes of Hesperian Boulevard were closed to traffic for at least two hours while officers processed the scene for evidence and towed vehicles.
Neither alcohol nor drugs appeared to factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.
We extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Gregory Ott in this very unfortunate time of their lives.
