Michael Smith Arrested after Fatal Hit-and-Run Collision at Taylor Street
SAN FRANCISCO, CA (August 14, 2018)– A man was killed in a hit-and-run bicycle collision on Turk Street, early Tuesday evening. The deceased victim was later identified by the San Francisco medical examiner’s office as 65-year-old Gregory Blackman of San Francisco.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident took place around 5:45 PM near Taylor Street. A vehicle hit Blackman was riding his bicycle when he was struck by a silver BMW at the intersection of Turk and Taylor.
The vehicle fled from the scene, leaving the injured man in the road. Responding officers arrived at the crash site and transported Blackman to a local hospital. He later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead by medical staff.
Officials were able to locate the hit-and-run driver after the incident. 41-year-old Michael Smith was arrested and taken into custody on charges of vehicular manslaughter, hit-and-run, and DUI causing injury or death. No further details about the incident or the arrest were immediately released to the public.
