One Killed and Two Injured in Car Accident near Highway 101; Charles E Bailey Arrested
GONZALES, CA (April 17, 2018) – A man was killed in a DUI collision on Gloria Road just east of the US Highway 101, late Tuesday night.
Around 11:19 PM, 38-year-old Charles E Bailey of Gonzales was speeding in a white GMC Sierra eastbound on Gloria, when he failed to stop and rear-ended a silver Chevrolet Malibu with two people inside.
The Chevy, driven by a 55-year-old Salinas man, swerved to the south edge of the road and overturned several times, coming to a rest on its wheels. The impact of the collision caused the GMC to swerve left off the north end of the road, into a vineyard.
The unidentified Chevy driver man sustained life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. A 42-year-old woman sitting passenger in his car, was treated for a broken pelvis. Bailey sustained moderate injuries and was taken to the Natividad Medical Center for treatment and evaluation.
Officials continue to investigate the accident; alcohol and speed are considered to be factors in the fatal incident. Witnesses with additional information are encouraged to call the CHP Monterey area office at (831) 770-8000.
No other information has been disclosed at this time.
Heartfelt condolences to the friends and family of the man killed in this tragic accident.
