Young Bicyclist Hospitalized after Struck by Vehicle near Barron Avenue
PALO ALTO, CA (June 18, 2018) – A girl was hospitalized after a bicycle collision on El Camino Real, late Monday morning. Her identity was not immediately disclosed to the public.
According to the police, the collision occurred at 11:07 AM in the 3703 block of El Camino Real, near Barron Avenue. A northbound green Subaru Outback struck the eastbound bicycle in the area’s intersection.
When the police arrived at the scene, they found the girl conscious and breathing. She was still able to talk to the authorities and was transported to a nearby hospital, where it was confirmed that the girl suffered severe injuries. Her current condition has not yet been confirmed.
The driver of the Subaru stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Drugs and alcohol were ruled out as possible factors in the collision.
Due to the severity of the girl’s injuries, the police department’s Specialized Traffic Accident Reconstruction responded to lead the investigation of the crash. They towed the driver’s vehicle to have its computer systems evaluated. This process will help investigators to determine the vehicle’s speed, if the brakes were utilized, or whether there were any equipment failures.
The identities of the parties involved were not immediately available and no further details have been disclosed to the public at this time.
