Girl Killed in Multi-Vehicle Collision on Highway 49 [San Andreas, CA]

13-Year-Old Copperopolis Girl Fatally Injured in Four-Car Crash near Fricot City Road

 
SAN ANDREAS, CA (September 4, 2018) – A 13-year-old Copperopolis girl was killed Tuesday morning, following a multi-vehicle collision on Highway 49. Her identity was not immediately released to the public.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident took place at about 9:00 AM near Fricot City Road. A 2016 Chevrolet Colorado, driven by 25-year-old Klayton Powell of Jamestown, was heading north on the highway when it crossed the center line.
 
The pickup truck sideswiped a 1993 Yukon, driven by 45-year-old Matthew Coldwell of Mountain Ranch. Powell then struck a 2000 Saturn Vue, driven by 37-year-old Daniel McCubbins of Copperopolis, before colliding head-on with a 2017 International, driven by 26-year-old Brayan Morales.
 
The impact sent the Saturn down an embankment on the west side of the highway. McCubbins and his front seat passenger, identified as 37-year-old Jennifer McCubbins, were transported to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto with moderate injuries. Unfortunately, a 13-year-old girl seated at the back suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Powell, Coldwell, and Morales sustained minor injuries but did not require hospitalization.
 
An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the fatal collision and to identify possible contributing factors. It was also noted that everyone involved in the accident was secured in a seatbelt when it occurred. No additional information has been disclosed at this time.
