3 People Hospitalized After Two-Vehicle Crash on State Route 79 in Santa Ysabel

Santa Ysabel, CA (February 21, 2024) – On Saturday afternoon, an 11-year-old girl died, and 3 others were hospitalized in a two-vehicle crash on State Route 79.

California Highway Patrol announced in a news release Wednesday that the collision took place around 2:40 p.m. on Saturday at the intersection of southbound state Route 79 and eastbound state Route 76.

In the incident, a 27-year-old woman from Escondido was behind the wheel of a 2020 Honda Accord. 

She stopped at the intersection of SR-76 and SR-79 before pulling out in front of an oncoming 2022 Ford F-150, leading to the Ford striking the Honda’s left side, as per the authorities’ account.

The crash resulted in the death of an 11-year-old girl who was a passenger in the Honda. 

The 27-year-old driver and two other passengers, aged 16 and 34, were transported to the hospital with minor injuries, according to CHP reports. 

The 53-year-old man driving the Ford also sustained minor injuries but received treatment at the scene. 

Authorities have stated that they do not suspect driving under the influence as a contributing factor in the collision.
