Police Investigate Hit-And-Run Crash on Westridge Drive in Plano

Plano, TX (December 20, 2024) – 12-year-old girl sustained injuries in a hit-and-run crash on Westridge Drive.

Plano police identified the driver of a black SUV involved in a hit-and-run accident that injured a 12-year-old girl walking to school earlier this month. 

The driver, who admitted to the incident during questioning, has not been charged as police continue building their case.

Surveillance footage captured the SUV, identified as a Buick Enclave, striking the girl as she crossed Westridge Drive on her way to Wilson Middle School. 

The video shows the vehicle hitting the girl, reversing, and then driving away. 

The girl, thrown several feet, screamed in pain but managed to limp to school, where she reported the incident to a school resource officer. 

Thankfully, her injuries were not serious.

Public tips and neighborhood surveillance helped police track down the driver, who expressed deep regret for leaving the scene. 

Plano Police emphasized that while panic may explain her initial actions, leaving the scene of an accident is a serious offense.

The investigation, conducted in collaboration with the Collin County District Attorney’s Office, is ongoing. 

Police are awaiting a judge’s decision on whether enough evidence exists to issue an arrest warrant. 

The driver may face a felony charge for failing to stop and render aid, despite the girl’s minor injuries.
