18-Year-Old Woman Fatally Injured in Crash on Way to Coachella Music Festival
BANNING, CA (April 12, 2018) – Three people were on their way to the Coachella Music Festival, when involved in a fatal accident that took place on the 10 Freeway, early Thursday morning.
The collision took the life of 18-year-old Ginevra Gallone-Latte, while injuring 16-year-old Manuela Cerceillo-Rahbari and 21-year-old Cesar Hernandezozuna.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened around 4:15 AM on Interstate 10. A white 2009 BMW 328i, driven by Hernandezozuna, was traveling eastbound at high speeds in the furthest right lane when it drifted over the edge and onto a nearby dirt shoulder.
He attempted to go back onto the freeway, but lost control of the car, went over the south embankment, and crashed into two trees. The impact split the vehicle into two pieces, ejecting Gallone-Latte from the backseat. She was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. Cerceillo-Rahbari, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, suffered life-threatening injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Hernandezozuna sustained a laceration on his face.
The young girl is now at the hospital in a coma with serious spinal and brain injuries. A GoFundMe page was set-up to help Cerceillo-Rahbari’s family with medical bills. Click on the link to donate.
The police found the BMW packed with food, alcohol, and camping gear, as they were heading to the Coachella Music Festival in Indio. Drugs or alcohol are not believed to be contributing factors in the fatal collision. Officials believe that the driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel.

Wishing the family and friends of Ginevra Gallone-Latte strength and support in this difficult time. May she rest in peace. A speedy recovery to her friend and cousin, Manuela Cerceillo-Rahbari. Both attended La Jolla High School, and known to be inseparable.
