54-Year-Old San Jose Man Dies in Early Morning Crash on Highway 101 near McKee Road
SAN JOSE, CA (October 26, 2019) – A man died following a two-vehicle crash early Saturday morning on Highway 101 in San Jose.
The fatal crash happened around 3:35 a.m. near McKee Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a Chevrolet Cobalt was traveling northbound on the highway when it suddenly swerved left and cut across several lanes. A 1990 Mercedes-Benz SUV heading on the same direction hit the Cobalt on its left rear corner and kept going before hitting the guardrail.
The Cobalt went back across all lanes and came to a stop on the shoulder of the highway.
Paramedics took the driver of the Cobalt to a hospital, where he died from his injuries. Authorities identified him as Gilberto Delacruz Padilla, 54, of San Jose.
Meanwhile, the driver of the Mercedes, a 47-year-old San Jose man, only sustained minor injuries.
Authorities temporarily closed one lane of the highway as crews cleared the scene.
No additional information was provided at this time. The crash remains under investigation.
