Alondra Marquez Sentenced to 13 Years in Prison after Fatal Balboa Park Crash
BALBOA PARK, CA (March 23, 2019) – Months after the fatal DUI crash on Highway 163, 22-year-old Alondra Marquez was sentenced to 13 years and four months in state prison.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened on March 23, 2019. 40-year-old Giao Pham and his friend, Andy Lynn, were in San Diego to attend a wedding. Shortly after 2:00 AM, they left Rich’s Bar and opted to use Lyft for a ride home.
A short time later, Marquez’s vehicle struck the Lyft car from behind. Witnesses told the CHP both vehicles went off onto the right shoulder area, one of them overturning several times.
Unfortunately, Pham succumbed to injuries and died at the scene. Meanwhile, Andy Lynn suffered a debilitating brain injury. As per reports, the Lyft driver also suffered injuries in the collision.
On September 2019, Marquez pleaded guilty to gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and DUI causing injury. She was sentenced to 13 years and four months in prison. The prosecutor also noted that Marquez’s blood-alcohol level was more than three times the legal limit at the time of the crash. In addition, her vehicle traveled at speeds over 100 miles per hour.
