Geronimo Gonzalez Hurt, 1 Detained after Porterville Car Accident
PORTERVILLE, CA (April 15, 2019) – A 34-year-old man identified as Geronimo Gonzalez suffered a severed leg Monday, following a DUI collision in Porterville.
The driver of the BMW that struck him was identified as 22-year-old Mohamed Mohamed. Surveillance video shows him striking a nearby stop sign before traveling down a private dirt path.
Afterward, Mohamed subsequently hit Gonzalez while he was standing next to his parked truck. Medics airlifted Gonzalez to a nearby hospital due to the extent of his injuries. He reportedly sustained two broken legs as a result of the impact.
Furthermore, Mohamed also struck a propane tank near a home. The landlord, Annette Riaubia said, “He just flew into my driveway, straight to the back, and that’s all you see is just a blaze of light and smoke, and that’s that.”
In addition, CHP revealed that Mohamed escaped the scene after the accident. However, authorities eventually found him in his home. Authorities also stated that alcohol played a role in the collision.
Upon Mohamed’s escape, medics flew Gonzalez to Fresno for treatment. He underwent multiple surgeries and is still in critical condition due to the impact of the accident. Mohamed, on the other hand, suffered only minor injuries.
According to reports, Mohamed faced charges on DUI in Kern County last month. He also received four traffic tickets in Tulare County since the summer of 2017.
Authorities located him at his house behind a gas station, a block away from the area of the collision on April 12.
