Fatal Big Rig Collision on Northbound 5 Freeway near Gyle Road
GERBER, CA (March 6, 2018) – A 21-year-old man was killed in a car accident with a big rig on Interstate 5 between Red Bluff and Corning, early Tuesday morning.
The unidentified Redding man was driving northbound on the I-5 in a 2017 Jeep near Elder Creek, when he swerved off the road to the left west side and hit a guardrail. The vehicle bounced back into the highway and stopped, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A northbound 2013 Freightliner big rig, driven by 25-year-old Roman Duscoy of North Highlands, was traveling at speeds of 65 mph and was unable to stop in time, crashing into the left side of the stopped Jeep.
Authorities temporarily closed down the northbound lanes of the 5 freeway near Gyle Road for investigation. Traffic was diverted to County Road 99W until the lanes reopened. Officials continue to investigate the cause of the fatal accident. According to reports, the Redding man was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the incident. No other information has been disclosed at this time.
