1 Dead in Skagit County Motorcycle Accident on Highway 20
SKAGIT COUNTY, WA (August 26, 2020) – Sunday morning, George Shufelt died in a motorcycle crash on Highway 20.
According to reports, the WSP and local responders came to a report of a High-Risk Collision on August 23rd. The incident occurred about `11:19 a.m. on Eastbound Highway 20 near milepost 146.
The WSP revealed that 33-year old George Shufelt of Bellingham traveled at a high rate of speed. He headed on Highway 20 on a black 2016 Yamaha FZ09 Motorcycle. Troopers added that near milepost 146, Shufelt drove across the centerline and into oncoming traffic. Then, he crashed into a maroon 2012 Dodge Ram Pickup towing a 2018 Artic Trailer.
As a result, Shufelt and his bike fell into an embankment. Meanwhile, the driver of the truck and trailer stopped to the shoulder. Shufelt sustained fatal injuries and was declared dead at the scene.
Moreover, troopers confirmed that George Shufelt wore a USDOT Compliant helmet. They also ruled out drugs or alcohol as a factor in the crash. Furthermore, they revealed that the cause of the crash was Speed and Crossing the Center Line.
Meanwhile, 55-year-old pickup driver Kirk Rowan and passenger Gail Rowan didn’t suffer serious injuries. Both of them were Mount Vernon residents. Also, authorities confirmed that they wore seatbelts during the collision.
The crash totaled both the motorcycle and the truck. Moreover, the trailer had damaged. Thus, Carl’s towing hauled all three vehicles from the scene.
During this tragic time, we would like to send our sincere sympathies to the bereaved family and friends of George Shufelt.
