1 Dead and 1 Injured in Two-Vehicle Crash on Pico Canyon Road
STEVENSON RANCH, CA (November 11, 2018) – On Sunday morning, a man was killed after a traffic accident on The Old Road and Pico Canyon Road. The victim has been identified as 84-year-old Gene Sturdyvin, a Valencia resident.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the elderly man was driving a 2001 Toyota Avalon when he attempted to make a left hand turn out of the Coco’s Bakery driveway.
There, he drove directly into the path of a 2006 Jeep that was traveling southbound on The Old Road.
Due to the impact of the collision, Sturdyvin and his passenger had to be extracted from the vehicle. He was pinned inside his vehicle and was unresponsive when first responders arrived at the scene. He was transported to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Officials stated that the passenger’s current condition is unknown. The driver of the Jeep, 64-year-old Henry Gray of Stevenson Ranch, was not injured.
CHP closed the northbound lanes of The Old Road following the collision, while investigation and cleanup took place. No additional information has been disclosed to the public, as the investigation continues.
