Lodi, CA (November 25, 2023) On Thursday evening, Gene Benton Jr. was killed in a tragic bicycle accident on Highway 12.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal crash happened around 5 p.m. on Highway 12, west of Interstate 5.

Reports say that a Volkswagen Beetle, driven by a 19-year-old, struck Benton. Officials pronounced Benton dead at the scene.

Authorities are investigating fatal auto-pedestrian crash and have not released additional information at this time.
