Man in Wheelchair, Genaro Maravilla, Injured in Redding Pedestrian Accident
REDDING, CA (January 16, 2019) – A man in an electric wheelchair sustained critical injuries after being hit by a vehicle on January 14 in Redding.
According to the department, officers responded to the intersection of Placer Street and Willis Street around 12:16 p.m.
Reports revealed that 54-year-old Genaro Maravilla of Redding was riding an electric wheelchair south on Willis Street when he was unable to stop at Placer Street and entered the intersection. Meanwhile, 81-year-old Joan Moynihan of Redding was heading west on Placer Street in a Honda Accord when she hit Maravilla.
Maravilla was thrown from his wheelchair and sustained major injuries. He was taken to Mercy Hospital where he was listed in critical condition.
Moynihan was reportedly wearing her seatbelt and was not harmed. Drugs or alcohol were ruled out by the police as a factor in the crash.
