Fernanda Lopez Arrested Months after Fatal Crash that Killed Clovis Unified Vice Principal
FRESNO, CA (September 16, 2018) – A hit-and-run driver caused the untimely death of 43-year-old Gavin Gladding, a Clovis Unified vice principal.
As per reports, the incident happened in the early morning hours of September 16, 2018. Gladding was training for a marathon on Friant Road when a vehicle, driven by 18-year-old Rogelio Alvarez Maravilla, struck him.
Gladding suffered severe head trauma and later died at the scene. Meanwhile, Alvarez Maravilla did not stop to render aid and immediately fled the area.
Alvarez Maravilla turned himself in five days after the incident. Authorities charged him with leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in a death, vehicular manslaughter, driving without a license, and destroying evidence. The teen was sentenced to three years in prison.
Almost eight months later, authorities arrested 18-year-old Fernanda Lopez, a passenger in the suspect vehicle, after helping Alvarez Maravilla destroy evidence. She was sentenced to 210 days in jail and three years probation. A third person, identified as Moises Antonio Valdez Guerrero, also received three years probation after helping Alvarez Maravilla and Lopez cover up the crime.
