Murrieta Man Dies in Afternoon Motorcycle Crash on 15 Freeway at Rancho California Road
TEMECULA, CA (November 16, 2018) – A man was killed when his motorcycle crashed into a minivan and a big rig Friday afternoon in Temecula.
The Riverside County Coroner’s Office identified the man as Gary Wilson, 33, of Murrieta.
The fatal crash happened around 4:08 p.m. on northbound 15 Freeway at Rancho California Road.
Wilson was traveling between the left and middle-left lanes of the freeway when his motorcycle collided with a Honda Odyssey minivan. He was careened toward the middle-right lane, where he crashed into the big rig’s left rear axle. The impact ejected him from his bike onto the right lane.
Wilson sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials said the driver of the minivan was a 38-year-old Camp Pendleton woman, and the driver of the big rig was a 56-year-old Corona man. They were not injured.
The crash prompted closure of the fourth lane for several hours. As of 5:45 p.m., traffic was severely impacted, and traffic reports indicated a miles-long slow down in the area, with delays of up to an hour. All lanes were re-opened around 7:50 p.m.
Further investigation of this incident is underway.
