70-Year-Old Gary Thompson Arrested in Fatal Crash on East Empire Avenue [Spokane, WA]

Spokane, WA (February 4, 2024) – 70-year-old Gary Thompson was arrested following a fatal crash on East Empire Avenue Saturday night.

The fatal collision unfolded past 7 p.m. in the area of North Morton Street.

SPD officers said a vehicle traveling on East Empire Avenue struck a 35-year-old woman as she crossed the street. 

The pedestrian fell onto the roadway and was also hit by a second vehicle.  

Sadly, the woman succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

During the investigation, officers learned that Thompson, the driver of the first vehicle, was impaired. They took him into custody for vehicular homicide.

Officers said the driver of the second vehicle was not impaired.

Troopers are investigating.
