Speeding Rider Dies after Crash with Car in Arden-Arcade
ARDEN-ARCADE, CA (December 8, 2019) – A man was killed in a motorcycle crash Sunday at an intersection in Arden-Arcade.
The victim has been identified by family members as Gary Kenneth Smith Sr., 48, of Sacramento. Smith Sr. died after crashing into a car at Watt Avenue and Kentfield Drive.
According to reports, Smith Sr. was driving a 2006 Suzuki motorcycle southbound on Watt Avenue at approximately 70 mph. He ran through a red light at the intersection, ramming a Hyundai Elantra.
As a result, Smith Sr. suffered major injuries. First responders rushed him to Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District, where he later died.
The driver of the Hyundai remained on scene and cooperated with investigators. No arrests were made at this time.
CHP is still looking into the fatal incident and will be using traffic cameras in their investigation.
