29-Year-Old Man Fatally Injured in Solo-Car Accident near Hodgen Road
COLORADO SPRINGS, CO (March 14, 2018) – A Colorado Springs man was killed in a single-car crash on Highway 83 near Hodgen Road, early Wednesday morning.
The El Paso County Coroner’s office identified the victim as 29-year-old Gary Potter. Potter was driving on Highway 83 at around 3:40 AM in his 1996 Ford E-250. The van veered to the west side of the road and crashed into a delineator post, according to Colorado State Patrol.
Potter maneuvred the van sharply to the left, causing the van to spin and veer across the roadway. The vehicle then went to the east side of the road and fell down a small embankment, before it rolled while going over a culvert. The van only made a full stop when it landed upright in a drainage ditch.
Neither alcohol nor drugs are considered to be factors in the fatal crash, which remains under investigation. Witnesses are urged to contact Trooper Eric Zachareas at (719) 544-2424.
