One Killed, 3 People Injured, and Animals Hurt in a Fiery Car Collision on 135th Street
GARDENA, CA (March 4, 2018) – One person was killed after a car struck a power pole and collided with a mobile home causing a fiery crash on 135th Street on Saturday.
According to Gardena police Sgt. Mark Thompson, the accident occurred at the 1500 135th Street in Gardena when the driver of a 2003 Volvo crashed through the power pole and then went across Halldale Avenue, through a wooden fence and into a mobile home park.
The crash caused a fire that engulfed the car and the mobile home, killing the driver and destroying the home.
A woman and her adult son who were sleeping inside the trailer at the time sustained minor injuries and burns. A neighbor also suffered minor injuries while trying to rescue them and their pets, before police and firefighters arrived at the scene. Several pets inside the home were also hurt according to LAFD. Animal control arrived to render medical aid to the injured pets. At least two dogs and one cat were injured in the incident.
Authorities have not immediately disclosed the identity of the driver and what exactly caused the crash. The Gardena Police Department’s Traffic Bureau is urging anyone with more information regarding the crash to call (310) 217-6189.
