Phoenix, AZ (January 1, 2024) – On Sunday, 46-year-old Gabriel Cruz died in a hit-and-run crash on 83rd Avenue and McDowell Road.

Deputies are actively investigating a deadly hit-and-run crash that occurred just before midnight on New Year’s Eve in Phoenix.

Maricopa County Sheriff’s officials received reports of a pedestrian crash around 11:40 p.m. on 83rd Avenue and McDowell Road.

They found the victim, 46-year-old Gabriel Cruz, at the scene and rushed him to a hospital in critical condition.

Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries later.

MCSO asserts that Cruz, engaged in a verbal altercation, stepped into traffic during the argument. The vehicle involved in the incident did not remain at the scene, and investigators are currently working to locate the driver.
