2 Officers Injured in Peoria Accident near Lake Pleasant Parkway
PEORIA, AZ (September 29, 2020) – Saturday night, authorities arrested Gabriel Brandin after a crash near Lake Pleasant Parkway.
Two Peoria police officers responded after receiving a shoplifting report at about 7:00 p.m at Walmart. The officers attempted to arrest 40-year-old Gabriel Brandin in the store parking lot. However, Brandin managed to jump into his car and hit two officers while escaping with car doors open.
The front passenger door that struck one officer couldn’t be closed after the crash. Sgt. Amanda Gaines, spokesperson for Peoria police confirmed that the two officers suffered minor injuries. Both of them were evaluated by Peoria Fire-Medical Department at the scene.
Another officer found Gabriel Brandin near Lake Pleasant Parkway and Beardsley Road. The police also attempted to stop Brandin. However, he continued fleeing and drove at a high speed. Thus, the police stopped chasing him.
Afterward, an air unit located Brandin’s vehicle near Glendale Avenue and 99th Avenue. Then, the police detained him as he exited his car.
The authorities booked Gabriel Brandin into the Fourth Avenue Jail on suspicion of aggravated assault on an officer. He also received charges on the unlawful flight, endangerment, shoplifting, possession of drug paraphernalia, and driving under the influence.
The authorities continue to investigate the crash.
