29-Year-Old San Jose Man Fatally Injured in Crash on 280 Freeway near McLaughlin Avenue
SAN JOSE, CA (March 5, 2018) – A 29-year-old man was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver on Highway 280 near McLaughlin Avenue on Monday night.
The deceased victim was identified by the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office as Gabriel Armendariz of San Jose.
Around 7:05 PM, Armendariz was driving southbound on the highway in a green Honda sedan, when he hit a while Chevrolet pickup truck for unknown reasons. His vehicle lost control from the impact and crashed into a Toyota sedan. The truck came to a stop in the center divider, while the other two cars came to a rest in traffic lanes.
Armendariz exited his vehicle and was struck by an unidentified car that was traveling south. The driver did not stop, fleeing from the scene and leaving the injured man in the road.
Emergency personnel and police officers arrived at the scene of the crash and pronounced the San Jose resident dead. Officials continue to search for the hit-and-run driver and the vehicle involved.
