58-Year-Old Bicyclist Fatally Struck by Car near Olive and Hedges Avenues
FRESNO, CA (May 20, 2018) – A 58-year-old man was struck and killed by a car in a bicycle collision on West Avenue, late Sunday night.
The incident occurred just before 10:30 PM, on West Avenue near Olive Avenue and Hedges Avenue. Police stated that driver was southbound on West coming up to Olive when a bicyclist rode in the middle of the street and was hit by the vehicle.
The driver stopped the car and rendered first aid on the victim until emergency responders arrived at the scene. He sustained injuries and was transported to the Community Regional Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.
According to police, the driver was cooperative in their investigation. He did not appear to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs, but consented for a blood draw. The victim, possibly a homeless man, was not wearing a helmet and did not have lights on his bike at the time of the crash.
