1 Person Dead in Blue Lake Auto Accident on State Route 299 near Essex Lane

BLUE LAKE, CA (September 22, 2024) – On Saturday, Frederick Sundberg Sr sustained injuries in a fatal two-vehicle crash on State Route 299.

The incident happened on westbound State Route 299, east of Essex Lane.

According to the California Highway Patrol, an eastbound Jeep failed to negotiate a curve, veered into the westbound lanes, and collided head-on with a westbound Ram.

Moreover, responders pronounced the driver of the Jeep, dead at the scene. Then, paramedics transported the driver of the Ram, identified as Sundberg Sr, to Saint Joseph Hospital in Eureka, with unknown injuries.

Furthermore, the crash closed westbound State Route 299 for about three and a half hours but has long since reopened.

At this time, the events leading to the crash remained unclear. When additional information becomes available, the public will be notified.
