34-Year-Old Man Fatally Injured in Arrowhead Vineyard Accident near Nicholas Road
SONOMA VALLEY, CA (May 1, 2018) – A 34-year-old Fairfield man was killed by a tractor implement he was cleaning in a vineyard, on Tuesday morning.
Franklin Palacios Carrillo was found by another vineyard worker at around 7:30 AM pinned underneath his tractor’s tiller attachment, according to the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office. Schell-Vista firefighters arrived at the scene to find the man trapped beneath the tractor.
Carrillo was already dead by the time rescuers were able to pull him out.
According to Cal-OSHA, Carrillo was working in a vineyard managed by Walsh Vineyards Management called Arrowhead Vineyard, and was apparently trying to remove a tangle of vineyard wire from his tractor’s tilling tines when the implement dropped and crushed him.
Cal/OSHA is investigating the death and they have six months to issue any citations for violations of workplace safety regulations.
