Driver Dies after Pickup Truck Catches Fire on 280 Freeway at Trousdale Drive
MILLBRAE, CA (January 28, 2020) – A man died in a fiery crash Tuesday afternoon in Millbrae, CHP officials said.
The crash happened around 1:50 p.m. along southbound 280 Freeway, just north of Trousdale Drive.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a pickup truck veered off the roadway, struck a tree and a light pole. It then caught fire.
Arriving units pronounced the driver dead at the scene. The Santa Mateo County Coroner’s office identified the victim as Frank Edwin Seydel III, 34, a San Bruno resident.
CHP officials noted the roadway was wet at the time of the crash. They shut down the right lane of southbound 280 Freeway as well as the on-ramp from Hillcrest Boulevard. The closures were lifted around 5:25 p.m.
