Frank Gomez Identified in Fatal Two-Vehicle Crash in Galt
GALT, CA (August 16, 2019) – A Galt man died in a two-vehicle crash at Arno Road and Alta Mesa Road Thursday night.
The incident occurred at around 6:25 p.m. 40-year-old Frank Gomez died at the scene, while three others sustained injuries.
An investigation showed that Gomez was driving a 2019 Chevy Malibu westbound on Arno Road. Gomez failed to stop at the stop sign at Alta Mesa Road. He began to negotiate a left turn to travel southbound on Alta Mesa when a northbound 2004 Dodge pickup struck the Chevy.
Witnesses said the pickup was traveling over 80 mph in a 55 mph zone. It passed a slower northbound vehicle before re-entering the northbound lane just before the intersection.
The right front of the Dodge hit the left front of the Chevy. The impact sent the Chevy north and ejected Gomez onto the roadway.
The Dodge drifted northwest, knocked out a telephone pole, hit a tree, and then traveled into the driveway of a home on the northwest corner of the intersection.
Emergency responders found Gomez on the roadway and pronounced him dead at the scene.
Paramedics transported two passengers in the Chevy to a local hospital with major injuries. In addition, the 15-year-old Wilton resident driving the Doge was transported to an area hospital with moderate injuries.
We offer our deepest sympathies to the loved ones of Frank Gomez.
