Man Dead and Woman Hospitalized after Crash Landing along Puddingstone Drive

LA VERNE, CA (September 30, 2018) – A man was killed early Sunday evening and a woman was hospitalized following a small airplane crash near Brackett Field Airport. The deceased victim was later identified as 69-year-old Frank Elridge Owens, the owner of the plane.

As per reports, the incident took place shortly before 5:50 PM along the 1600 block of Puddingstone Drive. A single-engine Cessna 177RG crashed under unknown circumstances into a plant nursery while the pilot was practicing approaches into the airport.

The impact of the crash fatally injured Owens, and he was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. Meanwhile, an unidentified female occupant was rushed to a local hospital in serious condition. Updates on her current medical condition were not immediately available.

La Verne Police, together with inspectors from the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration, will be investigating the fatal crash. Additional information will be released to the public, following the conclusion of the investigation.
