Two People Killed in Head-On Collision near Hatch Road and Central Avenue
CERES, CA (February 12, 2018) – A man and a women were killed on Monday in a head-on crash near Hatch Road and Central Avenue in Ceres.
Witnesses reported one of the drivers, 28-year-old Francisco Verdugo-Garcia, was traveling at high speeds as he went into oncoming traffic. Verdugo-Garcia hit the car that 65-year-old Hope Granados was driving.
Police responded to the scene after receiving a report about a crash that occurred at around 2 AM near the Central Avenue intersection. Officers arrived to find two wrecked cars with one of the drivers dead, and the other was pronounced dead not long after. A smaller white SUV crashed into a tree right after the initial collision.
Crews spent hours cleaning up the scene and putting sand on the road for the safety of other motorists in the area. Investigators are still working on the case to determine the exact cause of the crash. They have not yet confirmed if drugs or alcohol were involved in the accident.
