Driver Arrested in Phoenix Deadly Crash
Phoenix, AZ (July 8, 2024) – 28-year-old Francisco Ruiz Coronado and a 17-year-old male from Glendale were killed in a vehicle crash on Interstate 17 early Sunday morning.
It was around 1 a.m. when the fatal collision happened near Northern Avenue.
Troopers said a possible DUI driver who was stopped in the roadway was being investigated when a minor collision took place in another lane.
While the authorities work on clearing that collision, a speeding vehicle crashed into those two vehicles.
As a result, Francisco Ruiz Coronado died, and the 17-year-old male from Glendale was rushed to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Moreover, the rescuers rushed the passenger in the speeding vehicle to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.
28-year-old Michael Gibson Jr, the driver of the speeding vehicle was later arrested and booked into jail on charges including homicide and assault.
The results of a blood-alcohol test are pending.
