Grant County Crash Kills Francisco Novoa, Sergio Rodriguez Lopez Arrested
Grant County, WA (August 09, 2021) – On Sunday, 51-year-old Francisco Novoa of Lind died, and police arrested 21-year-old Sergio Rodriguez Lopez of Mattawa, in a DUI crash on State Route 243.
The fatal accident happened near Desert Aire wherein three vehicles were involved.
The Washington State Patrol says Novoa was northbound when a southbound vehicle swerved into his lane and crashed head-on.
Novoa’s vehicle swerved into a nearby embankment. He sustained fatal injuries and officers pronounced him dead at the scene.
Meanwhile, Lopez’s vehicle’s sideswipe a car he was trying to pass in the southbound lane. He stayed in the northbound lane and struck Novoa’s car.
Lopez sustained undisclosed injuries and rescuers took him to Kadlec Regional Medical Center.
Moreover, investigating officers said Lopez was not wearing a seatbelt during the crash.
Lopez is facing charges of vehicular homicide. Officers consider drugs or alcohol to have been involved in the fatal crash.
